Where does Thay Tea get its teas?
Our teas are sourced from all parts of the world – from the hills of Nuwara Eliya in Sri Lanka to the fertile valleys of Kenya, and many points in between. As much as possible we source teas from plantations employing organic farming practices, and try to support small independent farmers.
Why Organic?
When you are brewing tea, you are steeping the actual tea leaf and anything that was used to help that tea plant grow. Any chemicals, pesticides, or other harmful residues that were used or sprayed onto the leaves of that tea plant are being steeped right into the liquid infusion that you drink. Basically, you are adding hot water to the leaves, and steeping all those chemicals right into your cup!
All of Thay Teas are grown employing organic farming practices, practices that do not include harmful and dangerous chemicals. This is good for you, and for the workers who pluck and process the leaves.
Organic and Biotea
Any Thay Tea that is marked “organic” has been certified organic by at least one of the following bodies: Canada, United States (USDA), and/or the EU (European Union).
Any Thay Tea that is marked “biotea” is grown on plantations that employ organic growing practices, but have not yet received their organic certification. This certification process is long and expensive, sometimes taking up to seven years, and can be out of reach for smaller tea farmers.
Ingredients
We blend many of our teas and work with master tea blenders to create our current offerings. Our teas are only blended using real ingredients. You will never find any artificial ingredients, flavours, or colours in any of our teas.
What is the difference between Natural and Artificial Flavouring
The difference is in the origins of the flavouring. Natural flavouring always comes from the actual source material. So for example, natural strawberry flavour is derived from real strawberries. Artificial flavouring is made using synthetic chemicals, not originating from the source. Again, you will never find any artificial ingredients, flavours, or colours in any of our teas.
How much does shipping cost?
Thay Tea offers flat fee shipping in both Canada and the United States. We ship throughout Canada (except Quebec) for $8.95 and ship to the USA for $10.95. All prices on our website are in Canadian dollars.
Can I return a tea if I don’t like it?
We understand that ordering online can be difficult! Unfortunately though, since tea is a food product, we cannot accept returned tea.
